Izetbegović: SDA needs an entire set of young people for a new energy

SARAJEVO, May 26 (FENA) - President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović today congratulated the 31st anniversary of the party's establishment and work, emphasizing that a huge effort has been made and a huge result achieved in the past decades, especially in the first one when the party was led by the late Alija Izetbegović.

"To fight for the independence of the country, to establish a state with all its institutions and attributes, to form an army and defend the integrity of the state, to get the Bosniak people to rise up again by reaffirming their religion and culture, returning their national name and the name of the language, are indisputable historical achievements that some other, larger and stronger nations and peoples had failed to achieve," said Izetbegović.

He stated that Covid-19 infected almost a tenth of BiH population and took more than 9,000 lives, and BiH was left without a number of respectable and hardworking people.

He added that in the five years of Novalić's government, GDP in the Federation of BiH has grown by 24 percent and reached more than 10,000 KM per capita. The number of employees increased by almost 70,000. The average income in the FBiH in March this year was 1,191 KM and was 16 percent higher than the income in the RS, 12 percent higher than the income in Serbia and Montenegro, 28 percent higher than in North Macedonia and 44 percent higher than the income in Albania.

Also, the indebtedness of BiH amounts to 6.2 billion euros, with Serbia it is almost five times more - more than 28 billion euros, and Croatia even seven times more - 43 billion euros. The FBiH owes 2.9 billion euros, and the entity of Republika Srpska, with double the size of the population of the FBiH and a three times weaker economy, owes 3.1 billion euros.

He said that the burden of the pandemic was combined with the burden of deliberate pressures, which, as he stated, were coordinated by numerous officicals from the SNSD and HDZ, and "unfortunately the Dayton structure gave them the opportunity to do so efficiently."

"Although these two political parties together have less than a quarter of seats in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, and the HDZ in the House of Representatives of the FBiH Parliament has less than one fifth, through disproportionate influence and the right to veto all issues in the houses, these two parties managed to stop and block everything they wanted," he assessed.

He also emphasizes that the SNSD, through its members in the Council of Ministers and the House of Peoples of the PA BiH, has slowed down the adoption of laws and decisions, including those related to BiH's European path, and has continued its narrative before the BiH public and before the international community that "BiH is an impossible state that should not even exist".

"The HDZ has blocked the implementation of the 2018 election results, the HNC Government is working in the old convocation, as well as the truncated FBiH Government, which lacks two Bosniak ministers. The filling of the Constitutional Court of FBiH was also blocked," said Izetbegović.

The SDA leader underlined that it is necessary to establish a strong pro-Bosnian coalition which will then find partners in the Croat and Serb people, preserve the independence of state institutions, regardless of pressures and threats.

He also stressed that the SDA must learn from its mistakes, change and rejuvenate.

"We need a whole set of young, ambitious, eloquent and persistent people who will bring new energy to the party, the work of councils, assemblies and parliaments. We have to prove again that we deserve our name that ends with the word - Action," said Izetbegović.
