SARAJEVO, May 27 (FENA) - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zoran Tegeltija (SNSD) confirmed today that the process of removing the illegally built church in the courtyard of Fata Orlović in Konjević Polje has begun and that the Government of Republika Srpska is in charge.
Namely, an MP in the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, Denis Bećirović (SDP), said at today's session that for years he has been persistently demanding respect for the fundamental human rights of Fata Orlović and asked again how it is possible that despite the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights, there is still such a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights.
Chairman Tegeltija reminded that the verdict defined that the built church building be removed from the yard, that fair material compensation be paid to the families and that the costs of the court procedure be paid, which was done.
“That church is no longer in function, all the furniture has been removed and the obligation to remove the building remains, for which the RS Government is in charge,” he explained.
He reminded that in January he said that the process was slowed down due to the coronavirus pandemic and that it was very complicated and difficult to work and find a contractor for that, but he announced that a contractor should be selected soon to remove the facility.
On October 1, 2019, the European Court of Human Rights passed a final verdict ordering the removal of the church from the yard of Fata Orlović in Konjević Polje.
Fata Orlović started a legal battle in 2000, but after countless lawsuits, hearings and court rulings in her favor, the church was not removed.
