MOSTAR, May 28 (FENA) - SDA President Bakir Izetbegović said today in Mostar that HDZ BiH President Dragan Čović had announced the possibility of unblocking some processes in the Federation of BiH.
Izetbegović told reporters after a meeting of the SDA delegation with representatives of the party's cantonal and city committees to discuss economic and infrastructure projects, as well as party problems of party unity, which, as he said, were not expressed in Herzegovina.
Answering a journalist's question about the meeting between the SDA and HDZ BiH leaders, which has been announced for next week, Izetbegović said that he expects some processes in the Federation of BiH to be finally unblocked at that meeting, such as forming a new FBiH Government and completing the composition of the FBiH Constitutional Court.
“We have one domination on their part and we are asking for this matter to be resolved. Yesterday, for the first time, I received an answer from Čović that they are probably ready to negotiate in that direction and that would be a historic shift. If the competence of the houses of peoples, at the FBiH and state level, is reduced to the protection of vital national interest, then it is possible to move much further, then this interdepartmental group can have the wind at its back and really do something,” said Izetbegović.
The leader of the SDA commented on the statement of the President of the Croatian Parliament Gordan Jandroković, who said that with the departure of Croats from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the area would remain empty and that someone else could inhabit it.
“Mr. Jandroković should be convinced that we are much more interested in Croats staying in this country than he is. This country (BiH) provided a third of Croatia's population. Prime ministers, football coaches, athletes, artists…. BiH has given a lot to Croatia and we would like these emigration processes in BiH to stop, and that our friends, our Croat brothers, to stay here with us and we will do everything to make it happen. I don't see any worrying trend here. What made Croats leave BiH was a stupid, violent policy, and it was the one that came from Zagreb 30 years ago, a policy that tried to create ethnically clean entities, that clashed Croats with their Bosniak brothers,” said Izetbegović.
When it comes to electing a new high representative, the SDA president said he hopes Christian Schmidt will have stronger support than his predecessor Valentin Inzko had.
“The new High Representative, so to speak, has a "stronger back". Mr. Inzko was certainly a friend of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He knew the situation very well and if he had the support he would certainly have done much more. I hope that Mr. Schmidt will have that stronger support. There will be some resistance that I believe will be overcome and I expect that the new High Representative will be somewhat more efficient than his predecessor,” said Izetbegović.
