Military ambulance of the Armed Forces of BiH opens in Čapljina

FENA Press release

ČAPLJINA, May 28 (FENA) - Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina Sifet Podžić and British Ambassador to BiH Matt Field opened the premises of a new military ambulance at "Božan Šimović" barracks in Čapljina today.

As announced by the Ministry of Defense of BiH, the project of opening four military ambulances was completed, after it was done earlier in Banja Luka, Tuzla and Rajlovac.

Members of the Armed Forces of BiH thus received four institutions in which they can receive basic health care.

In addition to Minister Podžić and Ambassador Field, the opening ceremony was attended by Deputy Ministers of Defense of BiH Mijo Krešić and Mirko Okolić, Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of the AF BiH for Operations Major General Ivica Jerkić, Commander of the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo Brigadier General Eric Folkestad and other representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the BiH Armed Forces, as well as state and local government officials.

The establishment of military ambulance at four sites of the Armed Forces of BiH is carried out through a project funded by the Government of the United Kingdom in the amount of 933,000 KM, which was initiated in August 2016 by forming a joint working group (MoD BiH, AF BiH, British Embassy and NATO Headquarters).

The project is also aimed at the development of the medical service of the Armed Forces of BiH and the improvement of health care for members of the Armed Forces of BiH throughout BiH.

Minister Podžić also thanked the British Embassy in BiH, which equipped the ambulances with all the necessary medical equipment.

British Ambassador Matt Field said the military ambulance is a product of co-operation between the United Kingdom and NATO and another indicator of what membership in an alliance, like NATO, really means.

The project was supported by NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, and the Commander of NATO Headquarters Sarajevo, Brigadier General Eric Folkestad, pointed out that this project is a real example to show what can be done successfully when several partners work together.
