Workshop on taking over the management of temporary centers for migrants

SARAJEVO, June 1 (FENA) - The migrant situation has significantly improved in recent months, concluded representatives of local, state and international organizations at the workshop "Assistance to Migrants in Bosnia and Herzegovina - Approaches inside and outside temporary reception centers" held in Bihać.

This is the result of a more active engagement of the BiH Ministry of Security, security and police agencies and partner organizations.

The workshop presented trends in the movement of migrants within Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a focus on the Una-Sana Canton and potential scenarios in the coming months, and defining roles and responsibilities between stakeholders in terms of handover of temporary reception centers to the management of the Service for Foreigners Affairs of BiH.

The Minister of Security of BiH, Selmo Cikotić, pointed out the determination for domestic institutions to completely take over the management of temporary reception centers for migrants. He also pointed out the launched activities for providing adequate accommodation for migrants, primarily through the construction of the reception center Lipa near Bihać, which Minister Cikotić also visited today and was informed about the works done so far.

He emphasized that at the same time, the Service for Foreigners Affairs of BiH, in cooperation with the local police, is carrying out numerous activities of relocating migrants from abandoned facilities to the reception centers and that in the last two weeks, about 600 people have been relocated.

The Head of the IOM mission in BiH, Laura Lungarotti, emphasized that this organization will continue to provide support to domestic institutions in migration management. She stressed the importance of improving cooperation and partnerships between all relevant institutions in order to more efficiently manage migration in BiH.

She added that in addition to the previous centers, the transition of management of several other centers to the Service for Foreigners Affairs is underway, stated the Ministry of Security of BiH.
