SARAJEVO, June 1 (FENA) - The project "Approach to Prevention of Trafficking in Human Beings in BiH - VICAPT" focuses on the victim, improves identification, protection and access to justice, provides more efficient identification, treatment and assistance to victims of trafficking, and education of all stakeholders in the fight.

The goal of the two-year project is to improve the capacities of relevant professionals to identify victims of trafficking, as well as to provide quality assistance.

The project ended with a conference at which the Minimum Standards for Providing Support to Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings in BiH, Especially Children, and the Manual for Providing Legal Assistance to Victims of Trafficking in Human Beings were presented today.

Conference participants expect better results through the development of standards for quality victim assistance, and the improvement of the capacities of individual actors to identify and assist victims within the state referral mechanism.

State Coordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Illegal Migration at the Ministry of Security of BiH Samir Rizvo said that in the last two years there has been an increase in the number of identified victims, and at the same time, the number of criminal investigations and verdicts regardin human trafficking have increased.

"Trafficking in human beings is a phenomenon that persists in BiH despite the measures taken. For the last two years, we have been working hard to build a complete system and mechanisms to combat human trafficking. One of the important items is the comprehensive response of the entire society, not just the competent institutions," he pointed out.

He added that the BiH Ministry of Security, as the coordinating institution within the BiH Council of Ministers, has already proposed a number of measures for these activities - one of which is the adoption of the Anti-Trafficking Strategy.

The VICAPT project is part of the activities that the International Solidarity Forum MFS Emmaus has worked on for 22 years, and this includes the problem of human trafficking in BiH.

The Head of the MFS Emmaus Office, Amela Efendić, stated that the activities were aimed at victims of crime.

"The victims are children of Bosnia and Herzegovina who are trafficked for the purpose of forced begging, forced service at home and for the purpose of other forms of exploitation, forced marriages, etc. Adults are also trafficked for the purpose of labor exploitation in other countries," said Efendić.

The participants of the final conference expect that the report of the international organizations that monitor the phenomenon of human trafficking will be more favorable for BiH in the future.

The Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH, in cooperation with MFS Emmaus, submitted the proposed Minimum Standards to the Council of Ministers of BiH for adoption.

The project "Approach to Prevention of Trafficking in Human Beings in BiH Focused on Victim, Improving Identification, Protection and Access to Justice - VICAPT" was implemented by the International Solidarity Forum MFS-Emmaus, BiH Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees, State Coordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Illegal Migration at the BiH Ministry of Security, with the wholehearted support of USAID in BiH.
