VIŠEGRAD, June 13 (FENA) - The Association of Families of Missing Persons "Višegrad 92", the Association "Women - Victims of War" and the Majlis of the Islamic Community Visegrad, yesterday marked the 29th anniversary of the killing of Bosniaks in this city.
Three thousand roses were thrown from the Mehmed-pasha Sokolović Bridge into the Drina River for the same number of Bosniaks killed in Višegrad. There were organized visits to the locations of Višegrad living bonfires, Pionirska Street and Bikavac, where more than 130 people, including a large number of women and children, were set on fire alive on June 14 and 27, 1992.
The survivors of Višegrad are still searching for the remains of their loved ones and remind that most of the people that were killed were also mistreated and abused in the most monstrous ways.
-"Most of them were killed on the bridge. They brought women, children and the elderly, they were killed and thrown into the Drina River, some would be tied up, thrown into the river, and then shot at. They tied people with wire and threw them into the water, some were set on fire, killed with a knife or a bullet. When we searched the Drina riverbed with a group of people in 2009, we found the bones of people who were thrown into the Drina River, but we did not find their skulls, we found a bag with the bones of a murdered child who was thrown into the river," says Suljo Fejzić.
According to the Association of Families of Missing Persons "Višegrad '92", this is a municipality in which 127 children were killed.
"These were mostly children under the age of 15, with all the other horrendous crimes that were committed in this town. It is impossible to find the tombs because no one will say where they are. It is difficult to find the remains, a large number still lie on the bottom of Lake Perućac," says the president of the association, Hedija Kasapović.
Milan Lukić was sentenced to life imprisonment before the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) for crimes in Pionirska Street and Bikavac, while Sredoje Lukić was sentenced to 27 years in prison.
So far, 18 criminals have been convicted of war crimes in Višegrad, three of them at the Hague Tribunal. A total of 247 years in prison and one life sentence were handed down.
