SARAJEVO, June 16 (FENA) - The document "Improving the quality and relevance of vocational education and training in Bosnia and Herzegovina - based on the conclusions from Riga - 2021-2030", was presented today in Sarajevo.

BiH Minister of Civil Affairs Ankica Gudeljevic said that the document represents a framework for all competent education authorities until 2030 and is the basis for modernization, increasing the quality and relevance of vocational education and training, and its full integration into the European area of vocational education and training.

She explained that the five priorities defined in the document are fully in line with conclusions from Riga, which were agreed in 2015 at the level of EU member states. These are the promotion of work-based learning, the development of quality assurance in vocational education and training in line with the European framework, increasing the availability of vocational education and training for all, further strengthening key competences in initial and continuing vocational education and training, and ensuring access and opportunities for initial and continuous professional development of teachers, trainers and mentors.

“With the quality implementation of these five priorities, we will get quality, inclusive and accessible vocational education and training,” Gudeljević pointed out.

This, she added, is the strength of vocational education and training - to train and introduce young people to the labor market during the process of education and training through work-based learning.

The document is the result of cooperation between the BiH Ministry of Civil Affairs and all competent education authorities, relevant partners in BiH, as well as friends from the EU, the Austrian Education Agency.

Austrian Ambassador to BiH Ulrike Hartmann underlined that investing in education means strengthening human capital and it has no alternative and is of great importance for every country, for the sustainable development of the economy and society.

“Quality vocational education is relevant for the labor market. It enables young people to enter the business world directly, enables them to meet the demands of the global economy,” said the Austrian Ambassador.

Head of the EU Delegation to BiH, Johann Sattler, said that this document has a strong engagement of the business community, and that, as he said, is something that young people will need, it will attract greater investments, especially when dual education standards are adopted - when students can spend half the time on practical work.

“The European Union will continue to support improvements in education, especially in the field of vocational education and training of young people, in order to give young people the tools they need to join the labor market. We will also work more on digitizing and training young people for entrepreneurial opportunities so that they can join and participate in the labor market,” Sattler stressed.

He reminded that the European Union had prepared 16 million euros for educational programs through IPA funds.

“The most important is that this document is implemented. We have seen many times how many important strategies and documents have been adopted, but it is of little use if they have not been implemented,” Sattler underlined, stating that this document will help young people to get more education in vocational education and training.
