FOČA, June 20 (FENA) - The Association of victims of war "Foča 92-95" marked the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict yesterday in Foča.

They said Al-Fatiha prayer and laid flowers in front of the Partizan hall, which served as a camp for women during the war, and after a walk through the city, flowers were thrown from the bridge into the Ćehotina River.

Foča is a city that is at the forefront of the systematic sexual abuse of Bosniak women during the aggression on BiH. They experienced this kind of humiliation at numerous locations in the area of this municipality, including in the Partizan hall.

The surviving women of Foča testified before the International Court of Justice in The Hague about the rapes, which ultimately led to a historic qualification in international law.

President of the Foča 92-95 Victims' Association, Halida Uzunović, emphasized that many women in this town had experienced the crime of rape, and that many criminals have not been held accountable for their crimes.

“June 19 this year marks the year and month when war criminal Ratko Mladić was convicted, among other things, for the war crime of rape,” said Uzunović.

FBiH Vice President Melika Mahmutbegović emphasized that today raped women are unfortunately on the margins of our society, without adequate institutional support.

“And not only raped women, but inmates in general, I think that our obligation is to legally resolve their status in addition to verbal support,” Mahmutbegović emphasized.
