SARAJEVO, June 20 (FENA) - The Resolution of the Parliament of Montenegro, which condemns the genocide in Srebrenica and prohibits its denial, is a big step towards accepting the truth about the events of the 1990s, which is the basis for continuing to establish trust and build better relations between states and peoples in the Balkans, said today President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) and Chairman of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegović.
As he assessed, the nervous reactions coming from Serbia show that there is still no readiness on that side to face this kind of truth, which is best evidenced by the reaction of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who complained that Montenegro "interferes in the issue of Srebrenica" and wondered "what has Srebrenica got to do with Montenegro".
“Montenegrins and Montenegro, as well as all nations and states that belong to the civilized and democratic world, should certainly "interfere in the issue of Srebrenica". Any crime committed against innocent people, and especially genocide, concerns every just and truthful man in the world, every nation and every state,” Izetbegović underlined.
He added that this is evidenced by numerous resolutions around the world, from America and Australia, to Asia and Europe, which condemned the genocide of Bosniaks in Srebrenica, and especially Montenegro "has something to say" about the genocide committed in Srebrenica, noting that the country was "pulled into" the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina under the policy of former Serbian President Slobodan Milošević.
Izetbegović reminds that a few years ago, it seemed that Serbia, led by Aleksandar Vučić, would have the strength to face the past, but that did not happen and probably will not happen.
“Vučić is returning to self-deception in which any Serb and Serbia can never be guilty and responsible for the evil committed, and they are guilty. This is confirmed by the verdicts of the Hague Tribunal and the International Court of Justice. Both courts ruled that genocide was committed in Srebrenica,” he underlined.
He also notes that the majority of the Serbian military and political leadership was sentenced before the Hague Tribunal, and before the International Court of Justice, Serbia was the first country in the world to be found guilty of violating the United Nations Genocide Convention.
