LJUBLJANA, June 20 (FENA) - The Slovenian Press Agency (STA) marked the 30th anniversary of its founding today, but at the same time it is facing the most difficult moment in history, which is why they marked the anniversary with the slogan 'ZaobSTAnek' (campaign to raise money to preserve professional and independent journalism, as well as to save hundreds of jobs).
The aim of STA is to inform the international media and other institutions abroad about the situation in Slovenia, but also to exchange information that would serve the Slovenian media.
While the STA is celebrating its 30th anniversary, it is in the most uncertsain situation in its history, and as employees say, they have become the subject of politics which is not the first time it has happened but it has never been so aggressive before.
“The media in Slovenia are facing financial and development challenges, and our role is even more important because of that. Numerous people who supported us in May during the campaign helped us strengthen our hopes for our survival,” STA employees added in a statement marking the 30th anniversary of its founding.
The STA was supported by the Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković, representatives of numerous media and news agencies from Europe such as DPA, BTA, ATA, Kosovopress, ANSA, as well as General Manager of the Federal News Agency FENA Elmir Huremović and the President and Secretary General of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA) Peter Kropsch and Alexandru Ion Giboi.
