Srebrenica Memorial Center to open five new exhibitions in July

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, June 25 (FENA) - The Srebrenica Memorial Center will open five new exhibitions in July dedicated to the memory of the victims of Srebrenica genocide, which will be part of a permanent exhibition in the future. It is the result of valuable research work of this institution in the last year, but also partnerships with organizations and artists from the country and the world.

The first in a series of new exhibits will open on July 7 at 4 pm entitled "Srebrenica: Our Story" which is a presentation of a comprehensive research, interview and review of oral history - memories of the siege and genocide in Srebrenica.

"We are grateful to the Government of the United Kingdom, which, through the project 'Truth, Dialogue, Future', supported the setting of this exhibition, thanks to which we now have a contemporary presentation and blend of all memories into thematic units that bring the experience of Srebrenica closer to visitors," said the curator of the Memorial Center Hasan Hasanović, who is also the main author of the exhibition.

The opening of Jelena Jaćimović's exhibition "ArchiWar: Stories and Memories of Srebrenica Genocide" is scheduled for July 8 at 5 pm, and will be transferred from Belgrade to Sarajevo. The exhibition was created in cooperation with the Humanitarian Law Center, and follows the story of Amra Begić Fazlić.

The next day, July 9, at 12 o'clock, the exhibition "Scars" by Paul Lowe will be opened, which was realized in cooperation with the Srebrenica Memorial Center and MESS.

And finally, on July 10, at 4 pm, the exhibitions "Spirit of Home" and "Building a House of Remembrance" will be presented.

“The exhibition 'Spirit of Home' was realized with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Sigrid Rausing Trust and the FBiH Ministry of Displaced Persons and Refugees. It follows the stories of demolished and rebuilt houses in eastern Bosnia and the stories of those killed and survivors of genocide. The stories of buildings and stories of people are connected in this way, which then goes beyond the context of genocide and war from 1992 to 1995, but finds its way to describe the theme of return and renewal of life in this part of the country,” said Velma Šarić, president of the Center for post-conflict research with which the Srebrenica Memorial Center prepared this exhibition.

The second exhibition "Building a House of Remembrance" was realized on the basis of Bosnian traditional carpets of remembrance made and donated by women from the BosFam association. The exhibition was set up by Ismet Lisica with a team consisting of Naida Lisica, Dunja Krvavac, Nedim Mutevelić, and Ahmo Mehmedović from the Memorial Center, the Srebrenica Memorial Center announced.
