Čović: The Resolution very clearly states 'Dayton BiH'

SARAJEVO, June 28 (FENA) - President of the Croat Democratic Union (HDZ) in BiH Dragan Čović, commenting on a European Parliament resolution that does not mention the 'constituent peoples', said that nothing would have changed if it had, but that it very clear stated 'Dayton BiH' which speaks of the constitutional principle of the constituent peoples in BiH.

“The political outwitting that we have has no special political significance for the position of BiH, the three peoples in BiH and the Croat people in BiH,” he said.

He expects that together with his colleagues this year he will succeed to amend the Election Law in BiH, but also for the European path of BiH, which will give everyone space to make serious changes to the BiH Constitution, because he believes that the European path and Annex 4 of the Dayton Agreement will not have much in common.

Čović claims that amendments to the Election Law in the last ten years is a condition for everyone.

“In the next few days, we will discuss and complete the basic indications on how to resolve the issue of electing members of the Presidency of BiH, the House of Peoples and other issues that will need to be resolved by the end of the year,” said Čović.

He reminded that last year he signed an agreement in Mostar with the president of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović and representatives of international institutions, in which they defined that the issue of changing the Election Law should be resolved in non-election year.

“As far as I am concerned, we have completed that work and gave all the forms we think could represent in accordance with that agreement and respect all decisions of the court in Strasbourg and the Constitutional Court of BiH when it comes to the Presidency of BiH and the House of Peoples of BiH,” he said.

He pointed out that in the next three days, they will complete the work at that level with the highest representatives of international institutions who will come to BiH.

After that, he added, there is a need to get an adequate majority in the BiH Parliamentary Assembly, but he thinks it will not be a problem.

“I believe that we will complete this work with the American and European administration in a way that it is not an agreement between two policies, but all options in BiH,” said Čović.
