Turković and Guterres on current situation in BiH and fight against coronavirus

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, June 29 (FENA) - Deputy Chair of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bisera Turković met yesterday in New York with the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres.

They discussed the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the fight against coronavirus and progress in reforms, the Green Agenda, the UN Peacebuilding Fund, relations in the Western Balkans and the steps that need to be taken to ensure lasting stability and security to prevent young people from leaving BiH.

“BiH needs solutions that will strengthen the state and bring much-needed stability and functionality, because frequent blockades and obstructions of decision-making by abusing the protection mechanisms from the Dayton Agreement are the main obstacles to progress,” Turković emphasized.

Gutteres welcomed Bosnia and Herzegovina's progress so far, stressing that joint efforts are needed to build a more progressive BiH.

The interlocutors also touched on the upcoming marking of the 26th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, and the recent final verdict against Ratko Mladić.

Minister Turković once again advocated for faster delivery of coronavirus vaccines through the COVAX mechanism. She also invited the Secretary-General to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina, the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
