MOSTAR, July 2 (FENA) - President of the HDZ Dragan Čović said in Mostar today that they will have clear positions on the upcoming talks on the BiH Election Law with international officials - only the implementation of the Mostar Agreement signed on 17 June last year, emphasizing that they are very close to an agreement on the Presidency of BiH and that he is optimistic that this part of the work will be completed on Sunday.
"As for the HDZ, we have clear views and we think they are acceptable because they respect all judgments of the Human Rights Court in Strasbourg and the judgments of the Constitutional Court of BiH when it comes to the election of members of the Presidency of BiH and the House of Peoples of the FBiH. We have clearly presented and explained these models several times and I hope that we will reach a bilateral agreement on Sunday," said Čović.
According to him, it is possible that the BiH Constitution will be adjusted to a limited extent according to the agreement.
"We have said very clearly that this can be limited change, such as changing the word Croat as a noun, Bosniak and Serb into adjectives Croat, Bosniak, Serb, if we solve a problem or if we agree to elect two members of the Presidency indirectly in the Federation of BiH and the like. These are symbolic changes and I think that we do not have more capacity at this time to change the Constitution," said Čović.
He expressed hope that a significant segment of the talks would be held on Sunday.
"I hope that a significant part would be completed on Sunday and only then a serious work ensues because everything we possibly agree on and make as a step forward should be prepared in the parliamentary procedure and be supported in the interdepartmental working group that gathers all the major political parties," explained Čović.
Answering journalists' questions whether they are closer to the agreement on the House of Peoples or the Presidency of BiH, he emphasized that they are very close to reaching an agreement on the Presidency of BiH and that he is optimistic that this part of the work would be completed on Sunday.
"There will be intensive talks and I believe that we would reach a final agreement on at least one issue on Sunday," said Čović.
He added that the talks would be conducted in the format: representatives of the SDA with the international community, representatives of the HDZ BiH with the international community and then a joint meeting would follow.
