SARAJEVO, July 5 (FENA) - Trafficking in children is a violation of basic human rights and only through joint action of all relevant stakeholdrers, governmental and non-governmental sector can this phenomenon be effectively countered, it was pointed out today in Sarajevo at a conference entitled 'Trafficking in children in Bosnia and Herzegovina'.

The conference was organized as a final event within the campaign to raise awareness about trafficking in children in BiH, which was implemented with the support of the joint program of the European Union and the Council of Europe 'Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022' and the project 'Prevention and Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in Bosnia and Herzegovina '.

The association "Novi put" from Mostar and its president Abida Pehlić said, in cooperation with the RING Network, that they realized a campaign in BiH to raise awareness about child trafficking under the slogan "STOP child trafficking". As part of the campaign, among other things, ten street campaigns were organized, five public forums with the participation of representatives of the governmental and non-governmental sector, and all institutions and organizations relevant to the fight against human trafficking and child trafficking, and an awareness campaign among Roma communities in BiH was also implemented, given that, unfortunately, Roma children are very vulnerable to all forms of human trafficking.

"We are satisfied with the results, there is great interest of citizens, especially parents of children attending primary and secondary schools, children who during the pandemic were in a situation to stay in front of their computers, laptops or smartphones and thus became more vulnerable to predators through information and communication technologies, especially through social networks," added Pehlić.

State Coordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings in BiH Samir Rizvo said that the goal of the campaign was to make the public aware that trafficking in human beings, especially children, is present in our society, that children are exploited in all forms of trafficking from sexual, labor, for forced commission of criminal offenses, for organized and forced begging and everything related to it.

The response to human trafficking, and thus assistance and protection to victims of human trafficking, as stated by Rizvo, is a very complex job that requires the engagement of numerous stakeholders from the governmental and non-governmental sector.

"Victims of human trafficking, especially children, through the process of trafficking go through very serious physical and psychological traumas and it takes a lot of time and resources for them to rehabilitate and reintegrate into society and continue a normal life," Rizvo added.
