Komšić: Asymmetric model of electing members of BiH Presidency is unacceptable

SARAJEVO, July 5 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić believes that the introduction of asymmetric model of electing members of the Presidency of BiH, or a different way of electing in the two BiH entities, is not a good option.

Komšić addressed the media after meeting with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Palmer and Executive Director for Western Europe, Western Balkans, Turkey and the United Kingdom at the European External Action Service (EEAS) Angelina Eichhorst, who had numerous meetings with BiH officials in Sarajevo today.

“I understand that certain people in power have the need to be optimistic, but life in BiH denies you very quickly. Some great political goals, without intervention on the Constitution of BiH, cannot be achieved through the Election Law. These are highly set goals, especially from HDZ,” Komšić thinks.

He says that according to the demands of HDZ, it means recomposition of the state and it is not politically acceptable to majority of citizens in BiH and most of the opposition political parties.

He is of the opinion that it would be good to reach changes to the Election Law by consensus in terms of decriminalization of the election process.

“Diplomats did not come to BiH with a solution, nor is it their function. They came here to underline the need that we have to complete the obligations we have undertaken,” Komšić added, assessing that the most important thing is to restore people's faith in the election process.

He also pointed out that the focus has shifted to only two parties, SDA and HDZ, which in his opinion is wrong since the support of others is needed for everything they agree on.
