SARAJEVO, July 7 (FENA) - A two-day virtual cross-border exercise is taking place in several Western Balkan countries - Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.
According to a statement from the BiH Ministry of Security, the exercise is part of an EU-funded project "ResponSEE" led by the Government of Styria / Austria, including partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, as well as Montenegro and Albania.
The goal of the ResponSEE project is to strengthen disaster preparedness in the Western Balkans by increasing interoperability, enabling and supporting cooperation in the international disaster response in order to bring Albania and Bosnia and Herzegovina closer to the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
The exercise is based on a discussion about procedures, guidelines and plans and starting of the decision-making process, in order to find ways of even stronger cross-border support between the three countries and the international community, such as the European Union, NATO and the United Nations.
After this exercise, at the end of 2021, a command post exercise and a comprehensive field exercise in April 2022 will be performed, based on the earthquake scenario, the BiH Ministry of Security said in a statement.
