SREBRENICA, July 9 (FENA) - The Archives of the Srebrenica Memorial Center officially opened today with the goal of preserving the memory and documenting the genocide committed in 1995 in that Bosnian town.
The opening of the Archives was attended by the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bosnia and Herzegovina Reinout Vos, archiving expert from Hungary Csaba Szilágyi, Director of the Center for Humanitarian Law from Serbia Nataša Kandić, a representative of PAX peace organization, which financed the project of equipping the Archives, Dion van den Berg, and representatives of the Memorial Center.
The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Reinout Vos, told FENA that today is an important day for the Memorial Center because the Archives will play a crucial role in preserving the memory of Srebrenica.
"On the occasion of marking the 25th anniversary of the genocide in Srebrenica, we decided that it would be very good to provide or secure the Archives at the Potočari Memorial Center. It is very important that all documents are collected at this place in order to preserve the "living" memory of what had happened and to fight against those who deny the genocide in Srebrenica," said Vos.
The Director of the Humanitarian Law Center from Serbia, Nataša Kandić, believes that the Archives will be the strongest weapon for denying or minimizing genocide.
"The Archives will be a symbol of the memory of all the victims. It is very important to make the young generations responsible for learning, knowing and accepting the facts that have been judged and to promote them with understanding and to oppose everything that is revisionism and denial of genocide. This Archives will keep the facts for all time and that is the most important thing," underlined Kandić.
