SARAJEVO, July 15 (FENA) - A group of citizens and members of veteran organizations gathered in front of the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina this morning to offer support for the director of the BiH Intelligence and Security Agency (OSA), Osman Mehmedagić, who was arrested in Sarajevo yesterday.

More than a hundred people are protesting peacefully, carrying support banners. Salko Zildžić addressed the media, saying that the arrest of Mehmedagić was a public performance and that Mehmedagić had been under constant attacks for years. Although he is a high-ranking SDA official, he points out that today's gathering has nothing to do with the party, but that it is a personal response and protest of the gathered citizens, including a large number of former soldiers.

"We are convinced that all citizens should be equal before the law, and thus we say from these protests that we are not convinced that this is the case with citizen Osman Mehmedagić. We will not allow proven patriots to be under constant pressure and disciplining from the apparatus of the state that is being misused.

In particular, we are raising our voice against the compromised prosecutor Oleg Čavka, known for the fact that his indictments and trials, which he initiated against Mehmedagić, have been regularly dropped. His work is permanently marked by mistakes, waste of resources, and his political motivation has long been proven. We also call on the authorities, more precisely the Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH Gordana Tadić, to explain why Čavka can spend so many resources on something that does not yield results, except for the interest of certain politics. We remind you that Tadić is already in the process where she has to explain why she favored Čavka and on several occasions assigned him certain cases, bypassing the system that ensures impartiality," it is stated in a written statement that the participants shared with the media.

Mehmedagić was arrested yesterday by the officers of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of the Interior on suspicion of committing criminal offenses of abuse of office or authority, forgery of documents and money laundering, in connection with checks on his diploma and transactions when buying two pieces of property. This morning, he was handed over to the Prosecutor's Office of BiH.
