Roma activists condemn racism and police brutality against Roma

FENA Darinka Mitrović

SARAJEVO, July 18 (FENA) - The Association of Young Roma "AKSIOM" organized a peaceful protest in Sarajevo today on the death of Stanislav Tomas, a Roma man from the Czech Republic who died in mid-June in the Czech town of Teplice, following an incident with Czech police.

Video footage of the detention of the Roma man on June 19 shows a policeman kneeling on his neck for several minutes. The Roma man later died in an ambulance.

As it was said, the brutality of the police, which ended fatally, is the reason why Roma activists across Europe, after the death of Stanislav Tomas, organized mass protests from which they sent a clear message "Stop racism - Roma will not be silent."

The protest was organized in front of the Embassy of the Czech Republic in BiH, where the activists of this association read their demands, which they will send later officially. Among them is a request for an independent investigation into the death of Stanislav Tomas.

Similar protests have so far taken place in Croatia, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, Romania, Bulgaria and other countries across Europe.
