Komšić: Inzko's decision is an act of civilization

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 23 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić welcomed the decision of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Valentin Inzko to amend the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which prohibits and punishes the denial of genocide.

“I welcome the decision of the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina to amend the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which prohibits and punishes the denial of genocide. That decision is based on a series of verdicts of the United Nations court, that is, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, which without any reasonable doubt determined the existence of the crime of genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina, i.e. genocide in Srebrenica,” said Komšić.

According to him, the decision of the High Representative is an act of civilization, and the least that the families of the victims of genocide deserve.

“It was high time to regulate the way of sanctioning those who glorify the crime of genocide, those who insult the victims and try to endanger the dignity of the victims. Also, this is a clear message to politicians who build their narratives on glorifying genocide and inciting interethnic hatred among the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, that such action is not acceptable and will not go unpunished. I am glad that Inzko made such a decision at the end of his mandate, despite the astonishing opposition of some of the key international factors in BiH,” said Komšić.
