SARAJEVO, July 23 (FENA) - The BiH Presidency member Šefik Džaferović welcomed the High Representative's decision in Bosnia and Herzegovina, establishing legal provisions banning genocide denial.
"The High Representative has thus fulfilled his obligation to the victims, to his conscience, but also to the Dayton Peace Agreement because the denial of genocide and the glorification of war criminals is a mechanism that seriously undermines trust among the peoples and endangers peace.
Genocide denial has been tolerated for years and the only result has been an increasingly toxic environment in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which the families of the victims simply cannot live in peace.
The High Representative acted justly, because the victims should not be left to the ruthlessness of those who glorify war criminals over and over again," said Džaferović.
This decision makes a strong step forward in the direction of civilizational values. The court judgments on genocide are accepted by the entire civilized world, and the only normal thing is for Bosnia and Herzegovina, as a country where genocide had been committed, to be part of that framework. This decision will essentially contribute to building a more normal and healthier environment for the future. Only on the basis of truth and justice is it possible to move forward in both Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.
