MoFA: It is untrue that Turković stopped procurement of vaccines from Qatar

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 26 (FENA) - Reports in the media that the Deputy Chair of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Bisera Turković stopped the procurement of vaccines from Qatar are absolutely untrue and malicious lie.

The authors of such absurd defamation will face a lawsuit at the competent court. The public in Bosnia and Herzegovina knows that Minister Turković, but also the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, from the very beginning of the pandemic with maximum intensity, in accordance with regulations, are involved in the procurement and provision of coronavirus vaccines. The claim that Minister Turković stopped any procurement can only be a malicious attempt to discredit, obviously in the interest of those who do not wish well for this country and its citizens, as part of the campaign against BiH.

In recent months, Minister Turković has had more than 30 official meetings and telephone conversations with numerous senior officials from around the world, and the focus of the talks has been the distribution and purchase of vaccines for Bosnia and Herzegovina. All this was accompanied by strong activities of the entire diplomatic and consular missions network and other officials of the MFA of BiH.

At the same time, after numerous talks with the Austrian Foreign Minister, who was in charge of BiH under the EU4Health program, Minister Turković was informed that BiH would receive 214,000 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines, the most in the region, and that the first contingent would arrive on May 4. The vaccines have arrived and since then deliveries have been regular.

She also talked about the possibilities of procuring vaccines with ministers from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Croatia, Japan ... and with the director of the World Health Organization (WHO) for Europe Hans Kluge.

After the meeting, Hans Kluge stated that "Bisera Turković and the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs played a key role in the COVID-19 vaccine diplomacy in the Western Balkans."

The obvious intention of placing incorrect information is an attempt to disrupt the extremely good relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the State of Qatar.

How inaccurate and absurd the statement was made in public is best shown by the fact that the State of Qatar a few weeks ago, at the initiative of Minister Turković, allocated funds of almost one million KM for vaccines for BiH, and which will be operational when the conditions for the procurement of vaccines on the market are created, the Press Service of the MFA of BiH announced.
