BH UK Network welcomes the decision of High Representative

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 27 (FENA) - The BH UK Network welcomes the decision of High Representative Valentin Inzko to impose a law banning and punishing genocide denial and glorifying war criminals.

"As the umbrella organization of Bosnian-Herzegovinian associations in Great Britain, BH UK Network has been providing psychological and practical assistance to our citizens on the Island who survived the genocide for more than two and a half decades. We know that denial is the last phase of genocide in which the perpetrators and their heirs and sympathizers deny that any crime took place, destroy records and insult witnesses," stated this organization.

They added that they have been lobbying for years to ban genocide denial, and they hope that the adoption of this law on denial will stop the humiliation of victims and their loved ones.

President of the BH UK Network Zaim Pašić took this opportunity, on behalf of the citizens of BiH in Great Britain, to thank Mr. Inzko who "made the right decision with a delay".

"I am glad that Great Britain and many countries, through their institutions, recognized the events during the aggression on BiH as genocide," he stated.

He added that with the help of the organization "Remembering Srebrenica", led by Lord Bourne of Aberystwyt and Dr Waqar Azmi OBE, and with the support of key British government figures, the memory of Srebrenica has been revived.

"Thanks to Remembering Srebrenica, many war stories have been told, the pain and sobs of Srebrenica's mothers have been heard around the world," it is said in the statement.
