SARAJEVO, July 29 (FENA) - The House of Peoples of the FBiH Parliament today adopted amendments to the Law on Protection from Domestic Violence in order to introduce a "persons of trust" in order to protect victims.

Since it was previously adopted by the House of Representatives, it was enabled to enter into force on the eighth day after its publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation of BiH.

“Now the victim of violence will have the right to appoint a person of trust who can be present in all procedures and actions prescribed by this Law in which the victim is involved. Courts and other bodies are obliged to enable the presence of a person of trust in all proceedings and actions,” said the Assistant FBiH Minister of Justice Damir Šapina at the session of the House of Peoples.

He explained that the trusted person is a family member or other natural person or an employee of the guardianship authority, institutions responsible for social and health care, other public institutions or non-governmental organizations, in whom the victim of violence has confidence.

The amendments to the Law are fully in line with the acquis.
