MOSTAR, 2 August (FENA) - The adoption of a total of six amendments relating to the constituency of the Serb people, equality in the use of language and alphabet and participation in the process of making legal decisions and regulations, at today's Assembly of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNC) in Mostar resolved the question of the constitutivity of Serbs in this canton.
The adopted amendments to the Constitution of the HNC harmonize the Cantonal Constitution with the Constitution of the Federation of BiH in the part relating to the constituency of the people and the use of languages and alphabet, in accordance with the judgment of the Constitutional Court of the Federation of BiH.
These Amendments were adopted by 26 votes for and one against, while three MPs were not present at the Assembly session.
On the eve of the session, the President of the HNC Assembly, Šerif Špago, said that the adoption of the mentioned amendments would define the name of the language as it is in the FBiH Constitution, which states that the official languages in the Federation of BiH are Croatian, Bosnian and Serbian, as well as Cyrillic and Latin alphabets.
Deputy Speaker of the Assembly Tomislav Martinović noted that the majority of Croat MPs in the Assembly raised the issue of adopting amendments to the Constitution concerning the constituency of the Serb people.
On this occasion, the Croat National Assembly of BiH issued a press release stating that the constituency of Serbs in the HNC is a step forward and a motive for resolving other open issues.
