Komšić: The obligation we all have towards the defenders of BiH is immeasurable

SARAJEVO, August 5 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić, addressing at the event Defense of BiH - Igman 2021, last night at the Kovači Memorial Center, said that these days we mark another anniversary of the heroic resistance of the defenders of the City of Sarajevo and of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the Igman site, which was a strategically important place in the overall defense of the state of BiH.

"Respected families of fallen soldiers and martyrs, disabled war veterans, veterans of the Army and MoI of the Republic of BiH, defenders of Bosnia and Herzegovina, comrades, before I say anything, I want to emphasize once again the immense obligation we all have towards the defenders of Bosnia and Herzegovina who gave their lives for the homeland at the Mount Igman. Without them, no speech on the defense of Igman, Sarajevo and the state of BiH is possible," Komšić pointed out.

According to him, during the aggression against the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, the aggressor killed more than eleven thousand civilians, of which 1,601 were children.

"I can not even imagine what would have happened if some of the key points for the defense of the city and the state like Igman had not been defended. There is no doubt, and at least it is clear today, that another Srebrenica would happen. It didn’t just happen thanks to those who were willing to fight and risk their own lives, for the lives of all of us. It did not give in to the terror of the aggressors and that is why today we have the privilege to enjoy freedom," the Chairman of the BiH Presidency pointed out.

He added that "freedom was not intended for the citizens of the City of Sarajevo". They were destined for destruction. As well as the destruction of the state as such. He says that this is best seen by the intensity of the aggressor's actions in the moments of the so-called negotiations.

That is why today, he says, no one has the right to give up the state of BiH. The citizens of this country are no longer afraid of threatening statements by politicians who reward war criminals, glorify war crimes, reject the law banning genocide denial.

We no longer, he added, live in 1992 or 1995, "nor do we have any illusions about the possibility of repentance for the crimes committed."

"And that is why on this occasion we can tell them that they can talk and say whatever they want, we are no longer interested in their opinion of the state, but they will never do what they did almost three decades ago. This is not only my belief, but the belief of all people who see Bosnia and Herzegovina as their homeland, and there are more of us. And we love this country much more than those who hate it. Such were those who are no longer with us today. They should be eternally thanked for all they have given for freedom. We have proven that we have courage. Now we need, in addition to the courage we need to keep, a lot of wisdom, perseverance, patience and we will reach our goal," concluded Komšić.
