IGC: Declare the Omarska concentration camp a protected monument

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, August 8 (FENA) - The Institute for the Research of Genocide Canada (IGC) supports the proposal of prof. David Pettigrew, a member of the IGC International Expert Team, that the Omarska concetration camp in Bosnia and Herzegovina be declared a protected national monument.

“The social, ethical, political, anthropological, philosophical implications of the genocide in Prijedor, when science has proven it, are so diverse and inexhaustible that as many new texts should be written about them and put them into the context of real events. Genocide in Prijedor is not a historical topic or a topic of history. On the contrary, the entire human future, especially European, and especially the Balkan future, must be forced to determine itself according to the crime of genocide in Prijedor. And that determination of human and civilizational future in the name of truth and justice, not revenge, is impossible without declaring the Omarska camp, a symbol of suffering, torture and murder, concentration camps of death in the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a protected national, state monument,” IGC said in the statement.

The Institute is convinced that the new High Representative in BiH will take concrete measures to protect the rights of victims.
