Youth Advocacy project: Support of youth rights in BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, August 11 (FENA) - On the occasion of the International Youth Day, August 12, with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in BiH, the project "YOUTH ADVOCACY - project in support of youth rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina" was launched today.

The growing “brain drain”, migrations of young people from BiH have shown that young people are pioneers of migration, and according to the latest statistics, many young people are not satisfied with the opportunities they have at the local level. But the problem is that they express their satisfaction only once they leave the country.

The YOUTH ADVOCACY project provides an opportunity for young people to "speak" while living, working and studying in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In order to take advantage of the post-election momentum at the local level of government, but also the pre-election moment at the general levels of government, open debates about what elected officials will do, young people must gain public attention and clearly convey their needs, expectations and demands from those elected to serve communities and are responsible for improving life at the local level over the next four or more years.

The project is a series of local trainings on advocacy, lobbying and conducting public campaigns for young people throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina. The trainings will be interactive seminars and workshops on the topics: How to write your own public campaign? How to communicate with the media and the public? How to write an initiative and communicate with elected officials? What laws apply to youth at the local and other levels of government? What laws to use in communicating the needs of young people? In addition, young people will prepare local initiatives with the main goal of realizing the interests of young people and conveying the expectations of young people from elected officials. Youth expectations and written narratives of young people throughout BiH will be presented to the media, institutions and the public at the end of the training.

International Youth Day is celebrated every year on August 12, drawing public attention to youth issues and celebrating the potential of young people as partners in today's global society, the Youth Advocacy Team BiH said.
