SARAJEVO, August 17 (FENA) - As part of the Competition Program - Documentary Film of the 27th Sarajevo Film Festival, a film "Reconciliation" by Slovenian director Marija Zidar was screened last night, which talks about the need for forgiveness.
The film "Reconciliation", co-produced by Slovenia, Montenegro, Serbia and Kosovo, is a story about an attempt to reconcile two families after an eighteen-year-old girl was killed in a family quarrel in the Albanian highlands.
Her grieving father is under pressure from a local bishop and the chairman of a non-governmental organization from the capital, not only to forgive the imprisoned killer and his family, as a Christian, but to reconcile with them, as Kanun, the age-old tribal code, once required.
In a statement for FENA, director Marija Zidar said that the film is an anatomy of conflict and that this topic is something that is very relevant for the entire region because it talks about what happens if one or the other side doesn't even speak the same language and doesn't admit what happened, and if in between there is someone who only cares for his/her own interests, someone who presents himself/herself as a mediator.
“It took us a long time to make this film and it was complex to make it in the human sense of the story. Another problem was the availability of the protagonists, that is, the establishment of a relationship with them. This process lasted for a long time, and on the other hand it was complex and productive,” she said.
Zidar mentioned that at the beginning of the film, there was only a small team, she and the cameraman from Kosovo, and that the others joined only when they managed to show them that this story was worth something.
