SARAJEVO, August 19 (FENA) - The selector of the Competition Program - Documentary Film of the 27th Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) Rada Šešić, summarizing in an interview with FENA this year's SFF, with an emphasis on the documentary program, underlined that she is extremely satisfied with the selection.
"The audience returned to the cinema. The authors are thrilled because they saw their film on the big screens, and in excellent technical conditions. They had contact with the audience, which is why they make films. I think it means a lot for the whole documentary scene to have contact with the audience. It is also for the audience to feel what is happening in society. Because documentarians really show how society thinks, what the problems are. They are one step ahead of society and signal what is happening. A documentary selection is a kind of a barometer for society and is very important for the audience to feel for these films, these topics, for the stories to be discussed later," underlined Šešić.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic marked the world last year, there were no films on the subject matter among the documentaries that were included in the Festival. Speaking about that, Šešić believes that it is still too early for that topic, although some authors did some reflections on their mobile phones, butshe says that these are not yet mature films.
"I also do the selection of the films at the world's largest documentary film festival in Amsterdam, IDFA. About 4,000, 4,500 films in the selection arrive there. We have now completed the selection of the festival, which is in November and there are not many world-class films about the pandemic, only a few Chinese ones," said Šešić, adding that only maybe in a year or two, stories and research and emotional stories on the subject will begin to emerge.
Šešić is of the opinion that the films were more mature than in previous years because the authors had time to contemplate during Covid period, review the material they had previously shot, edit, re-edit, think about the narrative, the structure that will carry the film.
"I am delighted, so to speak, with this year's selection of documentary films in our region," concluded at the end of the interview with FENA the selector of the Competition Program - Documentary Film of the 27th Sarajevo Film Festival, Rada Šešić.
