Salkić calls on Schmidt to eliminate asymmetric solutions in entity constitution

FENA Press release

BANJA LUKA, August 24 (FENA) - RS Vice President Ramiz Salkić sent a letter to High Representative Christian Schmidt urging him "to take steps to eliminate asymmetric solutions in the entity constitutions and systemic discrimination by the RS entity government".

“The decision of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the constituency of the people on the entire territory of BiH in this entity has not been implemented essentially but only formally. Bosniaks and Croats do not have the constitutional and institutional protection in the RS as Serbs in the Federation of BiH. These asymmetric solutions in the competences of the House of Peoples and the Council of Peoples, as well as the president and vice-president in both entities, should be eliminated if we are talking about real equality,” Salkić points out in the letter.

He further states that "systemic discrimination based on the lack of a constitutional possibility to protect the interests of Bosniaks, implemented by the RS entity authorities, leaves drastic consequences for the number of Bosniaks living today compared to the number of Bosniaks living in this entity ten years ago."

At the same time, he points out that "discrimination in the Orthodox educational process has forced Bosniaks living in this entity to look for alternative ways to educate their children", and recalls that "in addition to court rulings in this entity, the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, discrimination continued through the denial of the Bosnian language and teaching in the Bosnian language".

In this context, he states that "the authorities of the RS entities continuously discriminate against people who returned, some 25 years ago, and treat them as returnees and do not allow integration into the system in order to make life easier for themselves, their families, compatriots and all other citizens."

“The High Representative is obliged, and his mandate obliges him to react to the phenomena that violate the Dayton Peace Agreement and endanger peace,” it is stated, among other things, in the letter sent by the Vice President of the BiH entity of RS Ramiz Salkić to the High Representative Christian Schmidt, announced the Office of Ramiz Salkić.
