EU4BusinessRecovery - Three million euros for metal and wood sectors

SARAJEVO, August 30 (FENA) - The European Union and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany have allocated three million euros in grants within the EU4BusinessRecovery project for recovery measures in the metal, machine and wood sectors.

A public call for project proposals opened today.

The grant will be available to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises to ensure business continuity, and the call was announced by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.

Nils Wetzel, project manager from GIZ, said the project was helping BiH economy to recover from the effects of the pandemic by supporting the five sectors that have the greatest potential to launch the entire BiH economy as soon as possible. Of those five sectors, four are manufacturing and are wood, metal, agri-food and textile sectors, and one is the service sector, tourism, for which a public call was issued in July.

“Through the project, we want to help these companies to re-establish their supply and sales chains, to facilitate their access to the most important markets and to return to the optimal level of business as soon as possible,” said Wetzel at a press conference in Sarajevo.

Speaking about the criteria for selecting candidates for grants, Wetzel reiterated that these are small and medium-sized enterprises in the metal and wood industry that suffered a decline and whose business volume decreased during the pandemic, or companies that can prove that before the pandemic were carriers of growth, prospered and created new jobs, assuming that they are ready to invest a certain part of their own funds.

The EU4BusinessRecovery project supports micro, small and medium enterprises in BiH to continue doing business and preserving jobs, and will especially support entrepreneurs, young people and other vulnerable groups in starting their own businesses and overcoming the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic by creating a more resilient business environment. The total value of the project is 13.7 million euros, and it is jointly financed by the European Union (13 million euros) and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany (0.7 million euros). EU4BusinessRecovery is jointly implemented by GIZ, ILO and UNDP, from 2021 to 2023.
