BLED, September 1 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Šefik Džaferović believes that the future of all Western Balkan countries is in the European Union, and the sooner this happens, the better it will be for both the Western Balkans and the European Union.
In a statement for the media at the Strategic Forum in Bled, he said that the future of the European Union was discussed at this gathering and that today, as many times before, it could be heard that without all Western Balkan countries and their EU membership, the Union will not be complete.
"We could hear again how the Western Balkans need European integration, and that the European Union also needs the Western Balkans. The future of BiH is in the European Union, the future of BiH is in the NATO. We in BiH should do everything to implement those reforms on our part so that the state becomes a member of the European Union as soon as possible," said Džaferovićć.
According to him, on the part of the European Union, observing their attitude towards BiH, and having in mind the situation in BiH, a more careful attitude towards BiH is needed.
"I would say that we need a day-to-day activity to help BiH to meet the conditions for a candidate status as soon as possible, and after that for the EU membership," he said.
He emphasizes that BiH has existed before the European Union, and it will exist even if it is agreed not to join the European Union, although he does not believe that BiH will not join the EU.
"So the issue of the connection between EU membership and the integrity of BiH are things that cannot be connected. BiH is an internationally recognized state, it has its own territorial integrity and sovereignty and it will exist forever. But, the best thing for all of us in BiH and the region is to be a member of a broader association that is the EU, a democratic association, and to be a member of a security association that is NATO," concluded Džaferović.
