Komšić: Western Balkans should not be left aside

FENA Hana Imamović

BLED, September 1 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Željko Komšić said today that the organization of a panel on "The Future of Europe - The Enlargement" within the Strategic Forum in Bled shows that alarms are on in Europe and that the Western Balkans should not be left aside.

He underlined that BiH has always been a multiethnic, multicultural and multi-religious country, which is a product of the times and space in which people have lived but also reminded that the principle of constituent peoples as an institution in the constitutional systems of countries is a solution originating from the Soviet Union and the Communist Party of the former Yugoslavia took on that concept.

"But today in BiH, no one will be less of a Bosniak, Serb, Croat, Roma or a Jew if they give up the notion of constitutiveness and turn to European values to those according to whom you live where individual human rights and the dignity of the individual are the most important," said Komšić.

But whether that will happen does not depend on his words, says Komšić, because it will happen when a sufficient number of people in BiH recognize that concept and vote for it in the elections.

It was pointed out at the forum that the enlargement process has slowed down, and that the countries holding the presidency of the European Union have put enlargement on their agenda in the last two years, but that it has been slowed down in part due to the pandemic.
