Izetbegović: RS politicians caused blockades, because they cannot deny genocide

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, September 24 (FENA) - Speaker of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegović participated in the 10th Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of Southeast European Countries and Visegrad Group member states, held in Budapest.

Addressing the audience, Izetbegović pointed out that the influence of the countries of Southeast Europe on the future of the European Union (EU) is unquestionable, but that the form in which it will participate in creating that future is questionable.

“We want to make a contribution as full members,” said Izetbegović.

The Speaker of the House of Peoples emphasized that the aspiring states must carry out extensive political and economic reforms, and that this is a vitally important process. He reminded that BiH's European path is currently stalled.

He also warned of examples of discrimination in the RS entity, and that the leaders of such a policy threaten the Dayton Accords, and thus peace and stability.

“The consequences of such an anti-European and anti-civilization policy are not only borne by us in BiH, but it can destabilize the entire region, including the EU,” said Izetbegović.

He called on EU member states to have a zero tolerance rate towards destructive policy makers, and to use mechanisms that can stop and prevent the destabilization of opportunities.

In this context, he pointed out the need to implement the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and eliminate discrimination in the electoral process.

Izetbegović pointed out the practice of abusing the authority of the people's homes, but also the dissatisfaction of parties with Croat ethnicity due to the manner of electing representatives in government institutions.

“Therefore, we expect the EU representatives, in accordance with their own principles, to actively engage in making an adequate solution to amend the Constitution and the Election Law of BiH,” said Izetbegović, announced the Office of the Speaker of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament Bakir Izetbegović.
