SARAJEVO, September 28 (FENA) - The second phase of cooperation within the Regional Program for Local Democracy (ReLOaD2), which is being implemented in the Western Balkans, is funded by the European Union and implemented by the UN Development Program (UNDP).

The UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Sukhrob Khoshmukhamedov announced in a statement to the media that, after signing a memorandum of understanding within the ReLOaD 2 project with 13 local governments from all over BiH, services will be provided to about 10,000 citizens until the end of 2024.

It is about supporting local governments and civil society organizations in order to improve transparency in the implementation of public budgets and budget funds. This, he said, will ensure equal opportunities for all citizens to access the public budget. This program will also deal in part with youth issues in Bosnia and Herzegovina. One of the main ones is the political participation of young people in political life, which seeks to ensure a future for this country.

"It is for the future of this country that young people are trying to stay, through their participation in relevant processes," he stressed.

Program Manager of the EU Delegation to BiH Vladimir Pandurević says that the goal of the ReLOaD project is to help overcome the challenges. He says that they will continue to support the UNDP and specifically the project because they believe that this is the best way to hear the voice of the citizens.

"One of the main results of the project is that we managed to make the financing of local communities more transparent than before. All the users of the budget of local communities are more up to date with events. That is one of the main preconditions on the way to the EU," he pointed out.

Assistant Minister of Justice of BiH Nedžad Salman says that the Ministry has been a partner in this project since 2009 (project for strengthening local democracy), the cooperation has expanded to the ReLOaD 1 project, and from now on in its second phase (ReLOaD 2).

They are satisfied with the results and, he says, provide maximum support to the project as much as they can and in accordance with the competence.

Head of the Department for Local and Economic Development of the City of Bijeljina, Ankica Todorović, says that they participated in the first phase of the project, and the improvement of communication between the non-governmental sector and the city administration is visible.

In the previous phase of the ReLOaD project, 21 local self-government units participated, and through 214 projects of civil society organizations, more than 38,000 BiH citizens benefited from it.
