SARAJEVO, October 3 (FENA) - President of the BiH branch of the International Council for Large Power Systems (BHO CIGRE) and member of the Administrative Council of the Paris CIGRE, Edhem Bičakčić, said that Bosnia and Herzegovina must follow the upcoming global energy transition processes.
According to him, this means that the process of replacing the production of energy from fossil fuels with energy from renewable sources has begun and is taking place. In addition, there is a gradual abandonment of vehicles with internal combustion engines and the transition to vehicles with electric motors - electrification of transport.
“When it comes to electromobility, some state incentives are needed to make it easier to move in that area. It exists in our surroundings and those who buy a new electric car have appropriate subsidies from the state, European funds and the like. I think that is one segment that the state should do to encourage people to move in that direction,” Bičakčić said for FENA.
Another important segment, as he added, is to build the infrastructure, which will enable the car to be filled at the location of almost every gas station, and that is a very demanding task because these are high-power facilities.
Our obligation is to reduce greenhouse gases, i.e. to decarbonize the economy. In order for BiH to catch up with these energy transition processes, as Bičakčić said, we must work rapidly to build new renewable energy sources. Electricity, oil and natural gas are commodities, but price fluctuations in our consumers are present only in imported energy (oil and natural gas), while in electricity we have constant and acceptable prices because it is a domestic product.
When it comes to prices, as he stated, BHO CIGRE monitors the situation on the electricity and gas market and this year there is a great conjuncture and demand for electricity, and it is estimated that there will be demand for gas especially in winter.
As for gas, according to him, it is now a global, big policy, primarily from Gazprom from Russia, which, with the construction of Nord Stream 1 and 2 and the Turkish Stream, has ensured an independent supply, apart from Ukraine, of European consumers.
Therefore, the gas is not transported through Ukraine, but through Turkey or the North Stream, and the European storages are not filled, the summer period has not been used. Now, significant gas demand is also dictating an increase in prices, and since gas follows oil prices, oil on the world market is also growing significantly.
“Forecasts with those prices are not good, especially for the next winter period when increased consumption is expected, and the increase in industrial production in Asia, i.e. China and other countries also causes increased gas consumption,” said Bičakčić.
