SARAJEVO, October 4 (FENA) - The Sustainable Development Week in BiH began today with the promotion of the Framework for the realization of the goals of sustainable development in BiH, which was adopted by the Council of Ministers of BiH, as well as other levels of government.

"I recommend that everyone read the Framework in BiH and use it in their work. Its scope is wide and includes the areas of good governance, health, energy efficiency, education and all the way to economic prosperity. It is a tool that is available not only to the public sector but also to all of us to build a fairer and more inclusive society," said the UN Resident Coordinator in BiH Ingrid Macdonald.

As of this year, BiH has a newly established Council for monitoring the implementation of sustainable development goals.

Head of Development Cooperation at the Embassy of Sweden in BiH Eva Gibson Smedberg pointed out that Sweden financed the development of the Framework for the Realization of Sustainable Development Goals

"Now that the formal conditions have been met, work on the ground will follow, which implies a stronger commitment of all stakeholders in the process of sustainable development. Sustainable Development Week offers a platform for various discussions and exchanges of experiences at the international and local level," said Gibson Smedberg.

The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) BiH, Steliana Nedera, presented the content that will take place during the Sustainable Development Week.

"The first event today is intended for the local level. It is an information meeting for local governments where members of the Council for Sustainable Development Goals will take the opportunity to invite local authorities to take a more active part in the realization of sustainable development goals. The topic of the afternoon discussion is social protection," said Nedera.

She added that "Talks on the Future" will be held tomorrow, which should help rethink a brighter and more sustainable future.

On the third day of Sustainable Development Week, the conference "Green Economy - A More Successful Business" will be held. The aim of the event is to bring together businesses and financial institutions to discuss what a green transition means for the private sector.

On October 7, there will be an event on the future of education where students will have a dialogue about new directions and tools that education should embrace for sustainable living and work.

Sustainable Development Week will close with the signing of the Declaration on Sustainable Development.
