Rao: There are many unexplored forms of cooperation between Pakistan and BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 12 (FENA) - The newly-appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Akhtar Jamil Rao, recently took office and pointed out that the exhilarating environment of the beautiful city of Sarajevo captured his emotions right away.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina runs deep in the national memory of every Pakistani. This feeling of strong bond and cultural affinity is irreversible and only gets stronger with every passing day,” states Ambassador Rao in his press release after taking the office.

He stressed that Pakistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina have a long and enduring history of mutual respect and affinity.

“Ever since 1992, when Pakistan recognized the nascent state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the two countries have stood by each other’s side whenever needed. The entire Pakistani nation cherishes this historic relationship with the brotherly Bosnia and Herzegovina and remains fully committed to consolidating these relations further to the mutual advantage of our two peoples,” he said.

“As Pakistan’s Ambassador in Bosnia & Herzegovina, my mission would be to take up from where my predecessors left and glide Pakistan-Bosnia and Herzegovina relations to a still higher trajectory where our sacred association spanning decades, pervades all the domains of our mutual collaboration ranging from economic and trade to defence, educational, cultural, scientific and people-to-people contacts and ties,” the Ambassador stated.

“I must underline that Pakistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina have a lot of unexplored vistas of cooperation and stand to gain from each other’s comparative advantages in multifarious domains,” he said.

As an instance, being a vibrant trillion-dollar economy that registered positive growth of four percent even when the global economic slump was being witnessed owing to Coronavirus pandemic, Pakistan’s economy has a lot to offer to Bosnia & Herzegovina and vice versa. Pakistan’s resilient textiles sector coupled with sports goods, surgical equipment, fruits and vegetables, IT equipment, emerging technologies can serve as efficient and cost-effective sources of imports for Bosnia & Herzegovina. In a similar manner, our booming construction industry stands to gain a lot from the import of high-quality wood from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Pakistan’s self-reliance in defence production has been a harbinger of regional peace and stability. It is this self-reliance that has made us the stabilizing force in the region as well. Our high-end quality defence products serve as a guarantor of security for all the peace and freedom-loving countries across the world as well. Bosnia and Herzegovina can also gain a lot through this defence equipment.

Talking of tourism, Pakistan is truly a hidden treasure trove for the adventure tourists as well as for all those who want to explore the beauties of nature. Ranging from one of the highest mountains and peaks in the world to captivating deserts, luscious valleys and awe-inspiring beaches of Gwadar and Karachi, Pakistan is a marvel not to be missed by any traveler’s eyes. I look forward to encouraging our Bosnian brethren to explore the beauties of Pakistan. My team remains at the disposal of the Bosnian tourists in facilitating their travel to Pakistan. In a similar vein, I would also encourage Pakistani tourists to reorient their travel plans for Bosnia and Herzegovina that is truly a jewel to explore within the Balkans.

Pakistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina have a lot to gain from cultural exchanges, educational cooperation and people-to-people contacts. It remains my focused objective to encourage such collaboration during my stint in Bosnia & Herzegovina through renewed vigor and continued commitment.

As two brotherly countries joined together through mutual respect, Pakistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina share ideas, perspectives, and ideals concerning the common challenges faced by the world today. Ranging from the fight against terrorism to climate change and sustainable development, the two countries share their views at different international fora. My objective remains to further institutionalize this collaboration in the years ahead.

Pakistan remains firmly committed to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Bosnia and Herzegovina will always find Pakistan standing by its side whenever needed. We are also confident that our brotherly Bosnia and Herzegovina will continue to support the principled position of Pakistan regarding the resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions as well.

As mentioned earlier, Pakistan is a stabilizing force in the region of South Asia. In a similar manner, Bosnia and Herzegovina also serves as a harbinger of stability in the Balkans. Our mutual collaboration can contribute towards global peace, prosperity, and development. I am hopeful that the two countries would build up their common strengths to their mutual advantage as also for the benefit of the global community.

“The list of avenues where Pakistan and Bosnia and Herzegovina stand to gain through mutual collaboration is unending. Our continued political commitment towards exploring these unexplored potentials coupled with focused endeavors aimed at realizing these objectives could serve as a guarantor for the promising future that we aspire for in terms of our bilateral relations. I look forward to working towards realization of this noble cause,” stated the newly-appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to BiH Akhtar Jamil Rao in his text on the occasion of taking the office.
