Komšić and Džaferović with President of Latvia on enhancement of cooperation

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 13 (FENA) - BiH Presidency Chairman Željko Komšić and Presidency member Šefik Džaferović met today with Latvian President Egils Levits.

The meeting of the presidents of the two countries is the first so far at a high level, and the officials agreed that the current bilateral cooperation is without open issues, but that it is desirable to intensify contacts at all levels, stated the Presidency of BiH.

The President of Latvia pointed out that the country supports the integration of BiH into NATO and the European Union and that they are ready to exchange experiences on the path of Euro-Atlantic integration and reforms of domestic legislation and other reforms to help BiH on that path.

President Levits expressed interest in the impressions gained by members of the BiH Presidency after the EU-Western Balkans summit in Slovenia. In that context, the interlocutors exchanged views on obstacles and opportunities on BiH's European path.

“The officials exchanged opinions on Russia's aggressive political influence in the Western Balkans, and concluded that NATO membership in BiH is of essential political and security importance,” the statement reads.

Chairman Komšić and a member of the Presidency of BiH thanked the President of Latvia Egils Levits for his support and sent him an invitation to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina.
