SARAJEVO, October 14 (FENA) - The Hungarian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina today hosted a ceremony at the Hall of the  Armed Forces of BiH on the occasion of taking over the chairmanship of the Visegrad Group, an association of four Central European countries - Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.

The handover was attended by the ambassadors of these four countries in BiH - Krisztian Posa (Hungary), Ivana Hlavsova (Czech Republic), Martin Kačo (Slovakia) and Jaroslaw Lindenberg (Poland), as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and domestic institutions.

The chairmanship of the Visegrad Group was symbolically handed over by Polish Ambassador Jaroslav Lindenberg.

In his speech, Hungarian Ambassador Krisztian Posa addressed the BiH public and citizens, conveying the message of the unity of Visegrad cooperation, and said that Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland are sincere friends of BiH.

"The V4 Group is a unique alliance of states, primarily based on a common history, values and interests. It was not formed as an alternative to European integration. All V4 states advocated for membership in the European Union.

V4 is characterized by close cooperation at all levels of interstate relations. one of the most successful examples of economic and political transition, becoming an important political factor.

One of the most important goals of the foreign policy of these countries is to strengthen the stability of the Central European region. The V4 countries are convinced that the process of European integration will not be complete without the accession of the countries of the Western Balkans to the European Union," Posa said.

He stated that the V4 countries are also successful in the economic field, which is proven by the fact that the overall economy of these four countries is the third-largest in Europe, and that it represents the main engine of economic development in Europe.

"I am convinced that the EU family cannot be complete without the countries of the Western Balkans, including BiH. Hungary continues to provide strong support to BiH on the path to European integration, as it has done so far. In the future, we are ready to make all political and technical support available to BiH," said Posa.

He stated that Hungary also stood firmly with BiH during the pandemic and that Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjártó paid an official visit to BiH three times, during which Hungary donated a significant amount of medical equipment.

With Hungary celebrating the 65th anniversary of the outbreak of the revolution and the fight for independence, the national holiday of Hungary was also solemnly marked today.

"We mark one of the most important moments in Hungarian history, the 65th anniversary of the outbreak of the Hungarian Revolution, which in 1956 was an expression of the desire for freedom of the Hungarian people and the fight against dictatorship in which heroes fought together against tyranny, for democracy and basic human rights, but not only for Hungary but also for all peoples who suffered from the Soviet dictatorship.

Although one of the most powerful forces in the world suppressed the uprising with military intervention, the heroes' sacrifice was not in vain, because the spirit of the fight for freedom left an indelible scar on the face of dictatorship, not only in Hungary, but in the whole of Eastern and Central Europe," said Ambassador Posa.
