Zvizdić with Senior Adviser in the Office of UN Resident Coordinator Agnes Picod

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 15 (FENA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić met today with Senior Adviser for Human Rights in the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in BiH Agnes Picod.

They discussed the current political situation in BiH and the suppression of hate speech in the political sphere, as well as in the context of the upcoming elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina. During the meeting, Chairman Zvizdić said that hate speech is most often used by politicians as a means of coming to power and surviving in power and that this, unfortunately, has marked the public space in BiH since the signing of the Dayton Agreement until today.

"Young generations grew up in such a toxic environment, and it is now more pronounced than ever. This is certainly one of the main reasons why young people are leaving Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Chairman Zvizdić during the meeting.

Chairman Zvizdić and Advisor Picod agreed that no one has the right to use unrestricted freedom of speech to insult other people because of their religion, nation, race, gender, sexual orientation, or similar and to use the network to spread the idea as positive, the Press Service of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly stated.
