GRADIŠKA, October 15 (FENA) - The bridge on the Sava River near Gradiška was officially connected today by symbolic welding of the last iron piece of the structure and the meeting of the delegations of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia in the middle of the bridge took place on this occasion.

The Minister of Communications and Transport of BiH, Vojin Mitrović, who led the BiH delegation, stated that the two sides of the river are now connected and that he was optimistic that the final construction works on the bridge and access roads would be done within the planned deadline.

"With that in mind, we will finally finish the works and put the bridge, customs terminal, border crossing, and other facilities of European importance into function," stated Mitrović.

It is planned to complete 500 meters of the road from Bosnia and Herzegovina side by spring and 50 meters in Croatia, after which the construction of an access road of six kilometers on the Croatian side should begin.

The costs of building the bridge of 19 million euros are split 50/50 by Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.

The Croatian part is funded by the European Union, which has also provided Bosnia and Herzegovina with a 3.2m-euro grant to build the bridge.
