Zvizdić speaks in Athens about the current situation in BiH

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 22 (FENA) - Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić addressed the participants at the Conference of Speakers of Parliaments of the Council of Europe member states, which is being held in Athens, at the panel "Common Future of All European Citizens".

In his address, Zvizdić informed speakers of the parliaments of the member states of the Council of Europe about the current political situation in BiH, emphasizing that the common future of all European citizens is a topic in which BiH is very interested.

"Multiethnicity is a natural state in BiH. The greatest value of my homeland is living together with each other, building a state in which different cultures, religions and policies can be together and represent wealth and that has often been attacked in BiH's long and turbulent history. The most severe and with the greatest consequences was in the period 1992-1995. This bloody aggression against the internationally recognized state of Bosnia and Herzegovina was followed by the Dayton Peace Agreement, which brought peace and stability and is, therefore, the greatest diplomatic success of the international community in Europe since the end of the Cold War. Unfortunately, the Dayton Peace Agreement and its key annex - the BiH Constitution, are these days seriously threatened by the blockade of BiH institutions and continuous secessionist threats coming from certain officials from the BiH entity Republika Srpska. The blockade of the work of the Presidency of BiH, the Government of BiH and the Parliament of BiH, along with activities that suspend state laws and declare entity institutions as state institutions, means the beginning of the destruction of the constitutional and legal system of the state of BiH. Imagine a region, canton, or province in your country deciding to form its army, its intelligence service, to issue its passports and so on. Of course, this is unthinkable in any democratic state, and that is exactly what is happening in BiH. Because, if the Constitution of the state is denied, then the state is also called into question, and together with that, the Dayton Peace Agreement is also called into question, and that means opening Pandora's box, not only in BiH but in the entire Balkans and Europe. Because, any 'peaceful dissolution' is not possible - everyone who is seriously aware of the situation in BiH and the Western Balkans knows that ", said the Speaker of the House of Representatives Denis Zvizdić in his address.

He called on those present to understand the seriousness of the situation in BiH.

In his address, he warned that it is necessary to protect the Dayton Agreement and the Constitution, not in the short term and ad hoc, but it is necessary to act preventively and ensure long-term stability, the BiH Parliamentary Assembly said.
