Jenča: Activities that threaten Dayton Agreement are unacceptable for UN

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 22 (FENA) - President of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) Bakir Izetbegović spoke with Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Europe, Central Asia and the Americas in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Miroslav Jenča on the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina with a focus on blocking the work of state institutions and the threat of violating the Dayton Peace Agreement by some political forces from the RS entity.

Jenča stressed that any unilateral activities that threaten the Dayton Peace Agreement, and thus peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, are unacceptable to the UN. He stressed the need to preserve the progress made since the signing of the Peace Treaty.

The process of reconciliation and overcoming the legacy of war in Bosnia and Herzegovina was also discussed. In that context, Jenča said that the UN strongly opposes the practice of denying genocide and other war crimes and glorifying convicted war criminals.

Izetbegović informed Jenča about the current situation regarding the negotiations on changes to the Constitution and the election legislation in BiH. He emphasized the need to implement the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and the Constitutional Court of BiH, and to reduce the powers and competencies of the houses of the people exclusively to the protection of vital national interests. Izetbegović underlined that this would improve the efficiency of parliaments and speed up the integration processes in which Bosnia and Herzegovina participates, the SDA said.
