SARAJEVO, October 27 (FENA) - As of today, the Alley of Ambassadors is richer by four more linden trees. At the invitation of the Mayor of Sarajevo's Stari Grad (Old Town) Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, the ambassadors of Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey and the Council of Europe took part in the tree-planting project today.
Malaysian Ambassador to BiH Raja Saifful Ridzuwan is the fifth ambassador of this country to participate in the Ambassadors' Alley project.
"I think that this symbolic gesture is an indicator of our excellent relations. This linden tree will be a part of me here in Sarajevo and I will certainly visit it after the end of my term," said Ambassador Ridzuwan.
The Head of the Council of Europe Office in BiH, Bojana Urumova, expressed her satisfaction that she became a part of this long-term project.
"I am proud to point out the very good business cooperation with the Municipality of Stari Grad. We are currently together in the project 'Divided Municipalities' in which the municipalities that are divided by an administrative line after the Dayton Agreement are participating and in this case the municipalities of Stari Grad and Istočni Stari Grad. Our goal is to improve and encourage even better cooperation," Urumova explained.
Ambassador of Indonesia, Roem Kono also planted his linden tree.
"I am happy that after my predecessor, Amelia Achmad Yani, I also got the opportunity to plant a linden tree at a very popular place in Sarajevo. Back home in Indonesia, the linden tree carries a very strong symbolism, it is believed that this tree brings well-being and prosperity to the place where it is planted," said Ambassador Kono.
Turkish Ambassador Sadik Babur Girgin also expressed satisfaction with participating in the project.
"I congratulate Mayor Hadžibajrić for continuing with this ecological project that gives beauty to this beautiful corner of Sarajevo, where all of us ambassadors leave a tangible mark," said Ambassador Girgin.
Since the beginning of this year, ten new trees have been planted in the Alley of Ambassadors, and in addition to the mentioned ones, lime trees have also been planted by the ambassadors of the Czech Republic, Norway, Japan, the Netherlands, Slovenia and Romania.
