Schilling: Everyone should have equal rights

SARAJEVO, November 2 (FENA) - Secretary-General of the Council of the Congress of Bosniak Intellectuals (VKBI) and NGO coordinator Emir Zlatar said at a press conference in Sarajevo that the Principles for Amendments to the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which were coordinated by civil society organizations (VKBI, HNV, SGV and the BiH Parliamentary Forum 1990), have received the support of almost 10,000 BiH citizens in the past few days.

“We want to tell the public and political leaders that our civil society organizations are committed to talks and peacekeeping, and we call on all BiH politicians, especially Milorad Dodik, to stop raising tensions, violating the Dayton Accords and create unnecessary fears by announcing the use of any force. We clearly want to reject the recent SNSD Declaration adopted in Pale as retrograde, unnecessary and meaningless,” said Zlatar.

We claim, he added, that the majority of BiH citizens, from all nations, both entities and the Brčko District, do not want any conflicts, especially armed ones, no legal violence, impossible secession, but a life in peace and a clear BiH perspective in Euro-Atlantic integration.

At the beginning, he thanked Schilling for accepting the recognition of VKBI to become an honorary member, thus joining the honorary members: Tilman Zülch, Ambassador Diego Arria and Nijaz Hastor. As of today, Schilling, as an honorary member, has the right to represent the statutory goals of the Council of the Congress of Bosniak Intellectuals.

Former High Representative to BiH Christian Schwartz Schilling said he was pleased to see that civil society in BiH is active, and to support their work and the goals they had set for themselves.

According to him, they have shown that coexistence is possible and that they want to engage in working, to do something for the homeland.

“One very important thing is in that part of the Constitution and the Election Law of BiH. The principles relating to constitutional change in BiH concern something that actually applies to all peoples, specifically Croats, Serbs and Bosniaks, but also to those who are called 'Others', who do not belong to any of the three constituent peoples,” stated Schilling.

He stressed that everyone should have equal rights.

“Representatives of these non-governmental organizations tell us about something that applies to everyone in the free world, that all people should have equal human rights, equal humanitarian rights and that, when it comes to one nation, everyone in the nation should and must have the right to vote, to have the right to choose without any difference and regardless of what religion or nation he/she is,” Schilling believes.

He said that some agreements are being made in BiH, but if those agreements are not in accordance with the European Charter of Human Rights, they are not valid.

He added that it must be clear that such an attack on principles is a very dangerous situation and that, if there is no unity, it can have a negative impact on democracy.
