NEW YORK, November 3 (FENA) - The United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted tonight with 15 votes in favor a resolution extending EUFOR's mandate in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

However, the High Representative of the International Community in BiH, Christian Schmidt, did not address the most important UN body because of the opposition of Russia and China, which many representatives expressed regret, but also stressed that his report on BiH reflects the worrying situation in BiH.

France's representative to the UN Security Council, Nicolas de Rivière, said that since the conflict of the 1990s, BiH has progressed towards peace and stabilization with the support of the European Union, and although political tensions are present today, France underlines BiH's European perspective.

“Peace and stability on the European continent are very important. The EU has played a significant role through EUFOR Althea's work for the benefit of the whole country,” he added and called on political leaders to overcome divisions and work in the interests of all peoples.

He also called for electoral reforms, principles that will ensure non-discrimination for all citizens in accordance with the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights.

He says that the High Representative of the International Community in BiH, Christian Schmidt, has a very important role in preserving peace, and believes that all political partners can benefit from a High Representative who can stabilize the country.

Ireland's representative Geraldine Byrne Nason said she was pleased that EUFOR's mandate had been extended and thanked Schmidt and his report, which provided a detailed picture of the situation in BiH, and encouraged all parties to respect and co-operate with the High Representative and the Office of the High Representative (OHR)

She recalled the 5 + 2 conditions for the closure of the OHR, which has not been adopted so far, but at the same time expressed concern over the negative rhetoric that deepens divisions and is an obstacle to reconciliation.

She called on all parties to refrain from unilateral reactions, especially the glorification of war criminals in BiH, adding that there is no place for that or for inciting genocide.
